About us
Care Dorset is an adult care service provider offering Residential services, Day Opportunities, Reablement services and Supported Living services.
Care Dorset is an independent company that is wholly owned by Dorset Council, this is known as a Local Authority Trading Company.
Who we are
From the start, Care Dorset wanted to be an organisation that did things a little differently. We believe that where possible people should receive the care and support they need in the place they prefer. Mostly, that means at home.
We want to do all we can to try and keep people out of hospital and try and deliver care and support at the home and when people come out of hospital, to provide support which means they don’t return. Our reablement service is key to this.
Our Values
Every organisation has their own way of doing things, their own set of beliefs, their own values. We are no different in that way. But the way we do things, what we believe in, how we behave, how we support one another and how we support other people, is what shapes our Care Dorset way, our values.
The values an organisation has need to be reflected in the way every colleague within that organisation behaves, and in the way colleagues interact with others inside and outside of work, and in the way the organisation approaches everything it does. They are the guide to all that we do and all that we are.

Our Services
Supporting adults to live better lives.
We want to do all we can to try and keep people out of hospital and try and deliver care and support at the home and when people come out of hospital, to provide support which means they don’t return. Our reablement service is key to this.
To do this job people need to be kind. To be compassionate. To be courageous. To be empathetic. To be caring. To put others first. Not everyone is like that. But people who work for Care Dorset, and people who work in care, are.

Residential
We’ve got five residential care homes across Dorset, supporting and caring for people who need it and providing peace of mind for their families and loved ones.
And they are not our homes: each of them is the home of every individual who lives there.
Day Services
We have 13 day services and each one is based in the heart of their Dorset communities.
They are a safe space where people are supported to learn new skills and participate in activities. We work with the people we support to understand the things they enjoy doing and explore together how they can achieve their goals and experience new things.
Reablement
Sometimes when people come out of hospital it doesn’t always mean they are ready to go back to their previous life straight away. Sometimes people might need a bit of extra support at home to stop them being admitted to hospital or needing long-term care.
It might be that temporary support at home is needed, until people get back to where they want to be.
This care is called intermediate care, or reablement.
Supported Living
Sometimes people aren’t able, or don’t want to completely live on their own. But they don’t want to live in a residential care home either. That’s why our supported living service exists: it helps people, often with learning difficulties, to live safe, happy, and healthy lives, with the independence they need.
Extra Care
Extra Care aims to ensure you maintain your independence while living in your own home.
